Learning

Teaching is part of the work.

Explaining an idea is one of the best ways to understand it. Learning sharpens the practice — and makes better decisions possible.

Science & perception

Acoustics & Psychoacoustics

Architectural acoustics, computational acoustics, perception, diffusion, measurement, simulation, and how physical behavior becomes a listening experience.

Audio engineers discussing a recording mix in a studio control room
Creative practice

Recording & Music

Recording fundamentals, microphones, critical listening, audio engineering, and the practical realities of making and working with music.

Formats

Lectures, workshops & custom training

Sessions can be formal continuing education, guest lectures, workshops, demonstrations, or programs developed around a group's specific questions.

  • AIA/HSW CEU sessions
  • Guest lectures and student forums
  • Professional workshops
  • Custom training for organizations
  • Listening and demonstration-based sessions
Selected teaching activity
Mount Wachusett Community College

Computer Technology Instructor.

Vassar College · Physics

Guest lecture in acoustics.

Frost School of Music, University of Miami

Computational Psychoacoustics guest lecture and student forum.

Acoustical Society of America

Education in Acoustics committee work, sessions, and presentations connecting industry and education.

Method

Understand the why, not just the rule.

Demonstrations, listening experiments, visualizations, diagrams, and practical software can make abstract acoustic ideas easier to hear and understand. Teaching also exposes assumptions and creates better questions — which improves the consulting and research work.

Neumann binaural head demonstration microphone
Binaural listening

Experiments that compare what changes when the sound field changes.

Model C diffusion demonstration with orange ping pong balls showing scattering
Diffusion demonstrations

Physical and visual ways to explain scattering and field development.

Vibration control demonstration showing VU meter, vibrating device, vibration pad, and floor underlayment
Vibration control

Demonstrations that make isolation behavior tangible.
